BluMunKee® SOFTWARE
STREAMLINES PRODUCTION IN SCRANTON, PA.
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Since Morris
DigitalWorks bought BluMunkee® Software
in September 2003, the imaging platform
with the funny name has been redefining
the standard for performance and quality
in prepress software for newspapers across
the country.
Earlier this year, The Scranton Times
purchased and integrated BluMunkee® Software
into their press operations. The software
suite automates the process of correcting
photos for print and Web publishing.
During the installation in Scranton,
an interface was written to seamlessly
connect the Times' editorial system with
BluMunkee®. The Times editorial system
sends photos needing correction to BluMunkee®,
BluMunkee® manages the process of getting
the photos corrected and then sends the
corrected photos back for publication.
"The system is excellent,"
said Steve Sillner, Quality Assurance
Manager for the Scranton Times (Pa.) "It
has allowed us to streamline our process
as our production has tripled."
"We are in the process of centralizing
production of six daily newspapers. We
operate as one print shop with six different
presses. Our goal is consistency. We want
our product to look the same, no matter
which press is used. BluMunkee® was essential
in giving us control over our output curves."
In June of 1988, The Times' publishers
combined the newspaper's more than 100
years of printing experience with a new
$12 million state-of-the-art printing
facility ten miles north of Scranton.
The installation of BluMunkee® allowed
the company to pull together their myriad
of systems and establish consistent quality
standards for each through one software
process.
