MORRIS DIGITALWORKS COMPLETES FIRST COMMERCIAL PRINTING INSTALLATION OF BLUMUNKEE® PRE-PRESS TECHNOLOGY AT FLORIDA SUN PRINTING
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Morris DigitalWorks has completed the first commercial print facility installation of its BluMunKee pre-press software suite at Florida Sun Printing in Callahan, Fla. The company will use BluMunKee for PDF file correction, as well as traditional photo correction and output. The announcement was made today by Michael Romaner, president of Morris DigitalWorks.
BluMunKee software automatically corrects photographs from editorial to advertising, creating color and monochrome versions in multiple sizes, formats, resolutions and gamuts, while applying the appropriate sharpening for each. Images can be simultaneously formatted for newsprint, additional print publications, archives, promotional materials, Web sites and other electronic distributions.
"This is an exciting step forward for the BluMunKee line," said Romaner. "We know that BluMunKee saves time and money for newspapers, and we look forward to watching it produce amazing results for commercial printing companies, as well."
As a commercial printer, Florida Sun Printing recognized the value and potential of the system for its operations based on the success of BluMunKee at various newspapers.
"We heard about BluMunKee software through our customers at the Georgia Press Association," said Mark Thompson, general manager of Florida Sun Printing. "We print for a lot of small newspapers that can't afford this type of software, and they love the results with BluMunKee."
"BluMunKee is very helpful for companies with inexperienced employees setting the documents," Thompson said. "For example, we recently received artwork from a grocery store with blackberries that were too dark and came out looking like a big blob. After running the image through BluMunKee, you could make out those blackberries very clearly."
BluMunKee is owned and developed by Morris Communications Co., LLC and is used by all Morris newspaper facilities, including the Brainerd (Minn.) Dispatch, which also runs the prepress software in their commercial printing facility. In addition to Morris newspapers, the software has been installed in such newspapers as The Washington Post, Cox Ohio Publishing and the Oklahoma Publishing Company.
